Cardiovascular Adaptations

Cardiovascular Adaptations

Endurance training can result in not just increasing your heart's ability to pump a larger amount of blood, but also stimulates the growth of new blood vessels allowing for more blood & oxygen to be delivered faster to the muscles. Also this type of training can trigger the production of new mitochondria - or the cell's "power plant". (Hughes et al.)

Not only can you create new blood vessels, but regular resistance training makes your arteries work better too! Lifting weights or even simple hand‑grip squeezes improves the ability for the inner lining of the blood vessel walls (the endothelium) to regulate blood flow. That benefit shows up in healthy adults and in people who already have heart or metabolic issues. In short: strength work isn't just for muscles—it also keeps your circulatory system flexible and resilient. (Silva et al.)
