Practice Overview
Building consistency and capacity
Choose 3-4 milestones that challenge you appropriately:
🥾 Progressive Terrain Walk
- 30-60 minute walk incorporating hills, stairs, or varied surfaces
- Include 10-15 minutes on uneven terrain if available
- Practice reading your body's signals during effort and recovery
🎒 Pack Introduction
- 45-minute walk with a light daypack (10-15 lbs)
- Include water, snacks, and a journal
- Focus on posture and how your body adapts to carrying load
🌄 Elevation Challenge
- Find local hills, stairs, or inclines for 20-30 minutes of climbing
- Include rest stops to practice breath regulation
- Celebrate the views (even if it's just from 3 flights up)
🧭 Navigation Adventure
- 1-2 hour walk using a map, compass, or trail app
- Practice basic wayfinding skills in familiar area
- Include 2-3 planned stops for reflection or snacks
🌿 Forest Bathing Extended
- 60-90 minutes moving slowly through natural area
- Include sitting meditation for 15-20 minutes
- Focus on sensory engagement and nervous system regulation
⛅ Weather Warrior
- 45-60 minute walk in less-than-perfect weather (light rain, wind, cold)
- Practice layering and weather awareness
- Build confidence in varying conditions
🏞️ Local Trail Exploration
- Explore a new local trail or park for 1-2 hours
- Research the area beforehand, pack appropriately
- Include photo/journal documentation of the experience
🌅 Dawn or Dusk Mission
- Early morning or evening adventure (1 hour)
- Experience transition times in nature
- Practice moving with reduced visibility/changing light
