👣 Sensory Awareness Practices
The senses are one of the easiest ways to shift out of our heads and back into the world around us—they help engage different parts of the brain and settle the nervous system.
The 5-4-3-2-1 Method
This one's called the 5-4-3-2-1 method, and it's something you can use anytime, but it works especially well out on a hike:
It only takes a minute or two, and it helps bring you back into your body and the present moment—especially when your thoughts start to spiral or you feel stuck.
🌲 Smell as Grounding
Try this simple practice:
→ Find a nearby plant—sage, rosemary, spruce needles, or anything else.
→ Rub it gently between your fingers.
→ Take a deep, slow breath in.
🌬️ Let the scent bring you into the moment.
